Graduate School (GS) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP), successfully launched a two-day professional training programme themed "International Higher Education Management Innovation" for the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GDUST) on 19-20 May 2025.

The two-day professional training programme closely aligned with the new goals and tasks of international higher education development. The curriculum covers topics such as the management concepts of higher education internationalization, artificial intelligence innovation, and the application of virtual reality and the metaverse in research and education. The programme aims to comprehensively enhance the teaching and research capabilities of participating delegates

Professor Joshua MOK Ka Ho, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) of HSUHK, delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled "Advancing International Higher Education Hub: Hong Kong's Experience" (推动国际高等教育枢纽：香港经验), highlighting Hong Kong's unique role as a global leader in higher education. Professor Mok shared practical strategies and case studies that underscored the importance of internationalisation in fostering academic excellence and institutional growth.

Dr Eugene WONG Yin Cheung shared his expertise on "Trends in Virtual Reality and Metaverse in Research and Education" (虛擬實境與元宇宙於研究和教育領域的趨勢). Dr Wong also guided the delegates on a visit to the Virtual Reality Centre of Centre for Teaching and Leaning, where they experienced cutting-edge VR technologies and explored their applications in teaching and research.

The programme concluded with an engaging session by Dr George HO To Sum, who presented on "Applied AI Research and AI in Education."

Delegates expressed their gratitude for the meticulously designed curriculum and the opportunity to engage with the engineers and faculty members. The training not only enriched their understanding of international higher education but also inspired them to embrace innovative approaches in their teaching and management practices.

The collaboration between HSUHK and GDUST continues to strengthen inter-university ties, promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise to co-create better learning opportunities for GDUST faculty members aspiring to pursue and commit to advancing higher education in the Greater Bay Area, fostering a vibrant and globally competitive academic environment.

Through this programme, HSUHK reaffirms its dedication to empowering faculty members with the skills and perspectives needed to drive the internationalisation of higher education, contributing to the broader landscape of educational excellence in the region.

The Graduate School of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP), successfully organized a 5-day professional training programme themed "International Higher Education Innovation and Management" for the Faculty of Foreign Languages from the Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GDUST) from 23 to 27 September 2024.

A group of 25 delegates, including scholars, faculty members, and senior administrators actively participated in this 5-day professional training programme. The programme aims to enhance the teaching capabilities of faculty at the GDUST. The training curriculum was meticulously designed to align closely with the new objectives and tasks of international higher education development, encompassing topics such as international management concepts, digital course construction, artificial intelligence innovation, and cross-cultural communication skills. The training also incorporated good practice sharing in curriculum design and pedagogy reform taken place at HSUHK to embrace new technology in enhancing teaching and student learning. The delegates also visited the School of Graduate Studies at Lingnan University, where they discussed its challenges and opportunities in higher education management and exchanged views on its student learning enhancement programmes, especially at the postgraduate level.

The delegates expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit two universities dedicated to advancing liberal arts education. They recognised Hong Kong's unique position as a leading international higher education hub in Asia, further enhancing their appreciation for the region's academic landscape. This exchange of professional experiences not only fostered dynamic discussions but also deepened their understanding of HSUHK's distinctive "Liberal & Professional" education model.

Following the successful completion of professional training for their second cohort of faculty members, the senior management of GDUST commended the quality and management of the training programme. Through such exchanges, the HSUHK and GDUST will continue to promote inter-university collaboration, co-creating better learning opportunities for GDUST students aspiring to pursue postgraduate studies at HSUHK.

Both institutions believe that such collaborations are vital for advancing higher education in the Greater Bay Area, nurturing a vibrant and globally competitive academic environment. Through these exchanges, they are not only enriching their own educational practices but also contributing to the broader landscape of higher education in the region.

Mr. Sean Tsang from the Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GDUST) officiated the opening ceremony for the "International Higher Education Management Innovation" professional training programme at HSUHK.
Professor MOK, Provost cum Dean of Graduate School delivered welcoming address to all participants of "International Higher Education Management Innovation" professional training programme.
Professor FONG, Emeritus Dean and Professor of School of Translation and Foreign Languages delivered speech and introduced the Language Training Laboratory.
Dr. LAU, Associate Director of Graduate School of Lingnan University delivered welcoming address to all training participants from the College of Foreign Languages of Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GUST).
Ms. LEE, Associate Programme Director of MSocSc in OPEM (Organizational Psychology and Education Management) and Academic Coordinator of LEAP (Learning Enhancement Activities Plan) delivered lecture about interdisciplinary collaboration learning among postgraduate students.
Visited to Lingnan University and discussed with graduate school colleagues of Lingnan University.
Dr. XU, former Director of Office of Global Education in Lingnan University, delivered a lecture about the Internationalisation Education.
Professor MOK shared a lecture relating 'Promoting Hong Kong as a Leading Higher Education Hub'
Mr. CHENG, University Librarian, introduced the Library and the student learning support facilities of the HSUHK.
Dr. CHUNG, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English of HSUHK, shared her experience of Innovative Teaching in English Language and Literature.
Dr. YAU, Head of Global Affairs, introduced the experience of enhancing students' international learning abilities in HSUHK.
Professor TAM, Dean of School of Humanities and Social Science of HSUHK, delivered a lecture about AI Challenges in Humanities Research and Creativity.
Professor YU, Associate Professor of School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University, introduced value enhancement project in the English communication and research.
Ms. WU, Associate Dean of College of Foreign Languages of GDUST, delivered speech at the Closing Ceremony of the Professional Training Programme.

The Graduate School of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP), successfully launched a 5-day professional training programme themed "International Higher Education Management Innovation" for the Faculty of Management from the Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GDUST) from July 11-15, 2024. 

A group of 50 scholars, faculty members, and senior administrators actively participated in this 5-day professional training programme. The programme aims to enhance the teaching capabilities of faculty at the Guangdong University of Science and Technology. The training curriculum was meticulously designed to align closely with the new objectives and tasks of international higher education development, encompassing topics such as international management concepts, digital course construction, artificial intelligence innovation, and cross-cultural communication skills. The training also incorporated relevant national policies, with a specific focus on cultivating teachers' international perspectives and fostering innovative thinking. The delegates also visited the School of Graduate Studies at Lingnan University, where they discussed its challenges and opportunities in higher education management and exchanged views on its student learning enhancement programmes, especially at the postgraduate level. 

Through active participation and the exchange of professional experiences, colleagues from GUST enjoyed engaging dialogues with faculty and staff from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University. These interactions helped enhance their international teaching and management knowledge. The delegates greatly appreciated the curriculum and its arrangement, feeling better equipped to adapt to the evolving needs of students. They recognized the significance of internationalisation in higher education, and their sense of responsibility and mission was strengthened. 

The senior management of GUST strongly supports the inter-institutional collaboration with the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and will send another group of faculty members from GUST to HSUHK for professional training. They believe such collaboration contributes to the advancement of higher education in the Greater Bay Area, fostering a vibrant and globally competitive academic environment.
